Group Accident FAQs

Does working with an MGU cost more?
Working through a Managing General Underwriter is no more expensive than working directly with an issuing carrier, and often can result in lower costs and faster responses than working directly with a carrier.

How long has GWI been underwriting Group Accident business?
GWI, was formed in 2000, however, the company's predecessor was called International Accident Facilities (IAF), which began underwriting Group Accident business in 1975.  Many of the old IAF personnel form the core of GWI.

Is there an advantage to working with GWI instead of a traditional carrier?
Yes.  GWI does not carry the large overhead of a traditional carrier, i.e. large number of product lines to support, large national sales force and the like.  Further, GWI provides direct broker access to decision makers, many of whom are former senior managers of large insurance companies.  Speed of response, direct access to key personnel, high expertise and focus on niche products, and operational cost controls are just some of the advantages of working with GWI.

What is the financial rating of your carriers?
Our primary carrier is ACE, and they currently hold a rating of A (Excellent) from AM Best Company.

What is your target market?
We target the Fortune 1,000 companies. Our minimum number of lives for Voluntary Personal Accident is 250 eligible employees.

What services does GWI perform?
GWI underwrites, distributes, issues policies, collects premium and pays commissions.
